The designer must be able to design using various topologies and techniques to achieve high power density, high reliability, rugged, manufacturable power supplies for military or heavy industrial applications. He or she will have demonstrated abilities in Switch-Mode power supply design, P-spice and similar analysis tools, along with experience in power packaging and layout.

Designers must have a minimum of 3 years experience in power supply design with a BSEE.

The Design Engineer at Espey must be able to:

-Go from a customer spec to a final design.
-Have several previous successfully power packaged circuit designs that can be used as reference for new designs.
-Perform circuit simulation using software such as Pspice or Microcap on those sections of the design that need it.
-Perform hand calculations when needed.
-Choose all electrical components keeping in mind proper derating guidelines.
-Create schematics using a schematic capture software, such as Espey’s PADS Logic program.
-Follow proper thermal management techniques when choosing a design methodology or component.

-Keep all required physical and electrical environments in mind during the design cycle.

TRANSFORMER DESIGN ENGINEER

The successful Transformer Design Engineer candidate will have a BS in Electrical Engineering and demonstrated abilities in the following:

  • Transformer design 0.1 to 50 KVA, up to 1 MVA desired.
  • High Voltage experience, 35-50 KV range.
  • Design experience using ANSOFT or similar analysis tools.
  • Thermal design and layout experience desired.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and SolidWorks desired.
  • Experience in oil and dry type transformers.
  • Experience in coil winding process.
  • Experience in impregnation process.

The engineer must be able to design to customer specifications, will be involved in all phases of magnetics engineering, from proposals through product development , including technical interface with customers to achieve high reliability, rugged, manufacturable transformers for military or heavy industrial applications.
