About the job: Embark on a new career journey to shape the future as an Espey Mechanical Drafter, where you will be part of a team crafting transformers & power supplies destined for military and industrial products. The Drafter will work with the Engineering team to create fabrication and assembly drawings for military and industrial power electronics including power supplies and transformers. Draft detailed drawings and bill of materials and watch your product come to life. Mechanical Drafter Key Responsibilities including, but not limited to:
- Draft detailed drawings of parts or structures from rough or general designs for generation of silkscreens, prototypes, and products made by Production departments
- Show dimensions, material to be used, and other information necessary to make detailed drawings clear and complete. As you create or revise schematic drawings
- Stay abreast of all the latest ISO procedures within the Engineering and Design/Drafting departments, as applicable.
- Stay abreast of the latest specs (MIL, ANSI, customers, etc) and assure that designs and drawings comply.
- Make mechanical packaging design decisions to achieve proper thermal, structural, and electrical performance. These include, for instance, items such as bracketry, thermal interfaces, weldments, material usage, mounting hardware, etc.
- Create and maintain symbols or library parts for the creation of documents and drawings.
- Document schematic and assembly drawing changes for review and processing as official Engineering Change Notices.
- Write technical reports and develop charts, graphs, and schematics to describe and illustrate system’s operating characteristics, malfunctions, deviations from design specifications, and functional limitations.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree including Drafting/CAD courses
- Minimum 2 year’s drafting or related experience
- Essential Functions include: frequently required to sit, talk, & hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk, and lift up to 10 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working with electronic components, such as capacitors, resistors, semiconductor devices and assemblies used in electronic equipment.
- Experience with MIL and ANSI drawing requirements and have a working knowledge of ASME Y14.5.
- Computer skills should include use/knowledge of Auto CAD, Solid Works, MS Office and Mechanical Design of Printed Circuit Board (PCB), Enclosures and Electronic Enclosures.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints, technical specifications, drawings and prints, and governmental regulations.
- Knowledge of mechanical & electrical engineering practices
- Experience in working in manufacturing or production environments
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
- Good communication skills and ability to interact professionally with coworkers and supervisors.
- Experience with magnetics, transformers, inductors, or MILSPEC products for airborne, ground mobile, or Naval applications
- Familiarity with EPICOR and CRM software, as well as Microsoft Suite of Products.
- Knowledge of ANSI/IEEE standards and experience with military standards such as MIL-E-917
- Comfortable navigating complexity and troubleshooting unique problems; requires attention to detail, critical thinking, accuracy, innovation, determination & resilience, and cross-functional partnerships
- Competencies include project management, independence balanced with strong cross-functional collaboration skills, bias for action, creativity, engineering prowess, & strong written and verbal communication skills
